Health and education are the primary objectives in the community development process. The company works relentlessly to ensure improvement of health standards of its employees. Parry Agro runs, aids, and has provided land for many English, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada medium schools across its various estates. The doctors also organize free dental camps, multi-specialty camps, and first aid trainings. The Medical Team has organized plastic surgeries costing lakhs for three employees with cleft lip, congenital naevi nose, and cleft palate free of cost under the ‘SMILE’ programme through KSHEMA, a haritable trust in Mangalore. The Company has also organized disability certificates for mentally-challenged and differently-abled children from Kadamane estates and nearby villages thus enabling them for a lifetime monthly pension of Rs.1000. Over the years, the standards at the Parry Agro Industries with respect to Health and Safety have seen an upward trend and continue to improve every year. Some of these standards act as benchmarks in the (plantation) industry. The Department of Community Health, St.John’s Medical College, Bangalore conducts an Health and Welfare Audit every year. Each estate has its own crèches handled by trained ayahs and supervised by the spouses of the executives. Apart from providing free uniforms and nutritional food, primary educational aspects are also taken care of. Immunization programs such as polio drops, booster doses, and Hepatitis B are also undertaken. Training on child care, health, and hygiene is provided to mothers. The crucial point with regard to all these initiatives is that, apart from the company’s workers, even people from in and around areas benefit from the welfare activities bringing true value to Corporate Social Responsibility!
